Unlock your locked file (A Freeware)

Image
You downloaded a lot of files from the NET and soon your monstrous hard disk space is filled up. Now no space for you to download more stuff, you decide to delete some of the older files to make space. Your deletion job seems to be progressing just fine when you receive this message This error can take many forms like:- Cannot delete file: Access is denied There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use. The file is in use by another program or user. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. Rebooting and then trying to delete does not yield desired results. Re-booting in "Safe Mode" and again trying also does not help. Don't even think of formatting your hard disk to remove that stubborn file (I once did it long long back). A simple utility called UNLOCKER is there to rescue you. Installation is a breeze. On...

CD/DVD Writers.... Some really good Freewares

Image
A long long time ago whenever someone said "Burn CD", people would invariably think of Roxio EasyCD Creator or NERO. And from a few MB, these "CD burners" are now more than a few hundred MB. And I just wanted to write a CD/DVD !!! Now if you just want to "Burn A CD/DVD", then you might not need all the features you get in your normal "Paid" Software. In fact why to pay for something you you can get for FREE. No I am not going to give you ways to crack/hack/jack (whatever). Instead I have found a couple of freewares which can do the job for you just right and you don't have to pay!! First candidate  CDBurnerXP From the site of CDBurnerXP:- CDBurnerXP is a free application to burn CDs and DVDs, including Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs . It also includes the feature to burn and create ISOs, as well as a multi-language interface. It does not include adware or similar malicious components. Key Features burn all kinds o...

FireFox 3 Released

Image
Date - 17 June 2008 Time - 10.30 PM IST (Indian Stretchable Time) A long wait for my favorite browser and that of millions of others is over. A few days ago I have written about my favorite browser Firefox 2. And I never knew that I will have to again write about a browser which is better than Firefox 2. Yes.... Firefox 3 has been released. I never tested betas or other release candidates as I have always preferred a stable version (Play Safe). So when I downloaded and installed Firefox 3, I was amazed by its speed. This is the first thing you notice when you start browsing. With loads of new features and security enhancements even diehard Internet Explorer fans would want to switch to Firefox 3. Some of the features I really liked at first glance (I have used it for just 10 minutes) is "Single Click Bookmark". When you visit a web site, a star is shown on extreme right hand side of the address bar as shown below.     Click ...

Recover Your Lost Outlook Express Mails

Image
Today one of my friend faced with a situation where his outlook explorer simply would not show him his Inbox. He closed and restarted his outlook express but of no use. Then he came to me for help. Though I am no fan of Outlook or Outlook Express (I use Thunderbird), I decided to have a look. The first task on my hand was to close the Outlook Express, so that damage to the corrupted files are minimized. My second priority was to actually find the path of .DBX files stored on hard disk, take its backup and then start the RESCUE operation. After taking backup of the corrupted DBX files, I actually started to look for some utilities (freeware, Of course) that  can help me in my recovery operations. After some looking around, I found this utility called Power Email Recovery for Outlook Express. Now this seemed to be my knight in shining Armour in the form of 1's & 0's :) After downloading and installing it, I was presented with a fairly simple and very intuitive interfa...

FTP Client and Server - Freeware

Image
Many of you have must have at one time or other used FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Though Windows® OS has built in command line version of FTP, for most of us it is useless and too cumbersome to keep typing commands. So an FTP client to with Graphical User Interface is what a normal user like me would like to have. There are a lot of FTP clients available and some of them are freeware also. Following two are such freeware FTP clients:- SmartFTP Client FileZilla FTP Client CLIENTS Though both these FTP Clients are good, My personal favorite is SmartFTP Client. SmartFTP Client is not exactly a freeware, it is Free for Personal and Educational use. Following screenshot gives you an idea of what to expect when you first start SmartFTP Client. The user interface is very well designed and easy to use. The one thing I like about SmartFTP Client is the fact that it supports Tabs which makes the life a little easier. It has got ma...

SeaMonkey :- All in one Internet Application Suite

Image
Is there a product that can meet all the requirements of all the PC users. Probably not, and following (altered) saying comes to my mind. You can satisfy some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not satisfy all of the people all of the time. Having said that, software developers do try to give us solutions and try to meet our requirements. When same company or group create different utilities to address these requirements, their next step invariably is to integrate them so that they "talk" to each other in a better way and provide the an enhanced user experience.  Microsoft's Office is one such example. SeaMonkey is one such all in one Internet application.   From the SeaMonkey site:- The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey all-in-one Internet application suite. Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project con...
